Giving Doesn’t Only Help Others, It Helps Me . . .

As a child, I was taught the importance of giving to other in need at an early age. I vividly remember my parents discussing with me that I would not have any presents on my 8th birthday. Instead, we would ask the party guests to bring cans of food for the food pantry. Being only 8, I was quite disappointed to here this. I mean, who doesn’t love presents?

But now since nearly 8 years have passed since that birthday, I’ve matured enough to fully understand the power that giving to others has. Yesterday, I organized and conducted a fundraiser in order to raise money for the Children’s Health Center at a local hospital. After weeks of stress and worrying about the outcome, I ended up making over $100! Just doing that act of kindness had an amazing effect on me. For the rest of the day, I was actually happy with myself and I can’t describe in words how amazing that felt.
